PROFESSIONAL

How do you connect your best life to your values and dreams? Ask Steve Finkelstein. As a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), Steve works with clients to establish clear, value-driven goals and create behaviors that support their advancement. For example; building a college fund, or retiring with dignity. Or perhaps taking a vacation trip of a lifetime. On the other hand, the goal might be more altruistic, such as leaving a legacy to your family or community. Whatever your financial goals and dreams are, Steve is dedicated to helping you create a disciplined approach to achieve success.

Steve began his career as a Financial Advisor in 1989. He became a CFP® practitioner in 1999. In 2000, Steve merged his practice with two colleagues to create a 25-person firm. Eight years later, Steve followed his vision of serving clients with a holistic, hands-on approach and in 2008 created Sterling Retirement Resources. As CEO of the firm, Steve is primarily responsible for advising clients on their wealth management goals. However, he is also responsible for  guiding Sterling Retirement Resource’s future,  having developed the firm’s business plan and clarifying the firm’s mission and values.

Sterling was built on genuine client relationships and team-based collaborative services. The name, Sterling Retirement Resources, reflects the dedication Steve and his team have to helping clients achieve financial freedom by delivering  impeccable advice, counsel, and service while providing a wide breadth of fiduciary services and resources.

Steve is a CFP® Practitioner and a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). He is a past board member for AdvisorNet Financial, an elected position chosen by his peers wherein he guided the decision-making process for how the $40 million firm runs and operates. Steve is a frequent speaker and author on financial topics, conducting educational seminars for the members of AAA Minneapolis since 1992 as well as Target and Target team members. Steve is also a speaker for ethics and best practices for his peers and colleagues.

PERSONAL

Steve Finkelstein has dedicated his personal life to the advancement of those in his community. When BestPrep was getting off the ground, Steve connected the statewide nonprofit with the financial planning community and served on the recruiting committee. He’s also spoken in classrooms and at the Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) program.

The father of three, Steve had the opportunity to coach his children in the Wayzata Youth Hockey Association and Plymouth Wayzata Baseball Association. He’s grateful for being able to witness the impact sports and teamwork had on their lives.

If you’re looking for Steve after-hours or on the weekend, you might find him golfing or having a beverage with friends and colleagues. Otherwise, he and his wife Stacy might be entertaining guests at their Plymouth home.

IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS...

“My goal is to keep it simple. I will most likely serve on a board or two in order to maintain my business connections. I hope to be able to continue to mentor younger entrepreneurs. I also plan to maintain my community involvement through volunteering. Hopefully having more time on my hands, my bucket list also includes rebuilding a muscle car, and perhaps spending the winter in Palm Desert, as well as visiting the national parks. Of course, I expect to always continue to learn, however, it would be wonderful to simply have more time to enjoy an uninterrupted  cup of coffee. Ten years down the road, I hope to be able to maintain my strong connections with the children, who will likely be spread out all over the place. Finally, if the cosmos lets me, I hope to MAYBE HANG AROUND STERLING TO DRIVE THEM CRAZY.”
